Anther

The area where pollen is developed and contained in a plant.

Apiarist

A beekeeper.

Bee Dance

Movement of the bee on comb to communicate the direction and distance of a source of nectar.

Beehive

A place where a bee colony dwells.

Beeswax

Secreted wax from the underside glands of the bee's abdomen. Bees mold the wax to form honeycombs.

Cell

The six-sided compartment of a honeycomb.

Colony

A community of several thousand worker bees, drones and one queen.

Honey in the comb.

Crystallization

Honey is a supersaturated solution. Crystals will develop in honey when glucose crystallizes out of solution. Crystallization of honey is most rapid at 57°F

Male reproductive cells of flowers. Bees collect pollen to use as food for their young. It is the protein part of a bee's diet.

On the hindleg of a bee, a smooth area surrounded by stiff hairs, which is adapted for carrying pollen.

Pollination

Fertilization of a flowering plant. The transfer of pollen from the anthers of a plant to the ovaries of that or another flower.

Queen

Sexually developed female bee. The queen is the mother of all the bees in the colony. she has a long, pointed abdomen.

Social Insect

Insects which live in a family society, with parents and off spring sharing a common dwelling place and exhibiting some degree of mutual cooperation.

Stamen

Male part of a flower where pollen-producing anther are borne.

Worker Bee

Sexually undeveloped female.
